What is an anal fistula?
An anal fistula is a small passageway that connects an infected abscess, also known as an anal
cavity, to an opening in the skin around the anus. The anus is the external opening through
which feces are expelled from the body? inside the anus are a series of small glands that
produce mucus. , these glands become blocked, causing an infection in the anal area.
This leads to the formation of an abscess and a fistula.
Anal fistula Cause:
The main cause of anal fistula is blockage of the anal glands, causing an anal abscess.
Although this is the major known cause, other factors cause an anal fistula.
Inflamed Colon STD - Transmitted Diseases Anal Fistula Symptoms Smell of discharge (smell
of pus) or blood from the perianal orifice. The pain subsides when the fistula is drained from
the body. Inflammation of the skin around the anus with painful discharge Bleeding Painful
bowel movements Chills, fever, and fatigue Call your doctor immediately if you notice any of
the above symptoms.
Diagnosis and Treatment of Anal Fistula:
Anal fistula is usually diagnosed by examining the
area in and around the anus. A doctor will look for an opening in the skin, also called a fistula.
Then try to determine the depth and direction of travel of the tube. Most of the time, drainage
comes from outside openings. Some fistulas show no visible markings on the outer skin. In
such cases, the doctor may perform more tests to investigate the problem in more detail.
Better observation of the fistula tract by ultrasound or MRI of the anal region.
