A few years ago I was asked to be a keynote speaker at the New Zealand Reflexology Association Conference. They told me that my keynote should take him 1.5 hours. I have done many workshops, training, and presentations, but never been a keynote speaker, so this was new to me. What should I offer for my opening conference keynote? 1.5 hours should set the tone for the weekend's event. I didn’t know what to say. When I started working on my keynote, I decided to tie it into a topic they called "getting to the heart of reflexology." Discovering our true purpose is understanding who we are, how, what our limiting beliefs are, and what keeps us interested. . As reflexologists, our curiosity and love for our profession can tell us a lot about ourselves. There is something magical about reflexology. Each of us has our own reasons for staying on track and trying to clarify our journey as we go. like the Tin Man, the Lion, the Scarecrow, and Dorothy, we follow our own paths - each for a reason. My journey began about 45 years ago, shortly after my first husband died when I was 27. I had her two little girls and they were in their early 70s. You remember wondering what happened to us... Race. To further my education, I decided to move from my small hometown in upstate New York to the big city of Toronto. I wanted to learn how to be myself on my own terms and to define my own path. This was scary at times, but I wanted to go home like Dorothy. I was lucky enough to marry Bill on that trip. He was also a widow with a young son and his family merged and we became Brady his bunch. Bill taught me to meditate, which led him to undergo his first yoga teacher training in Toronto. One night in class, my yoga teacher wanted to show me some acupuncture work. At the time, I was fortunate enough to have menstrual cramps.
Around the same time, Bill's son Ian was diagnosed with a spinal curvature and we were sent to Sunnybrook Hospital for an x-ray. X-rays show that Ian's hip bones don't fit properly in the hip sockets, resulting in one leg being much shorter than the other. I’m a yoga teacher. I asked about the acupuncture work and if it would help Ian. I told the teacher about Ian's leg. He brought Ian to me and told me what to do to correct the imbalance that Ian had at that time. He said that the clavicle is actually the point of extension of the leg, and not only does he press on that point, but he moves his thumbs to either side of Ian's spine, pushing the shoulder blade points and the hip area points along with the spine. I was instructed to reflect my hands and feet it took 2 minutes each day and after 3 months we were back in Sunnybrook for more x-rays. Ian was completely normalized. She was so impressed! So I set out - the art of healing is my focus, amazed and awed by the wisdom of natural ways to address imbalances, stress, and, the tension in the body and encourage the body to return to balance. I couldn't put my hand on someone's leg fast enough. Connecting Reflexology with the Psychological System during my travels, I provided treatments to clients while pursuing degrees in Psychology and Human Resources Management. , I started to work in the corporate world where I was introduced to the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator which looked at the human instrument's mental functions. Thinking about what the yogis stated that we are all part of the cosmos consisting of the same elements: Air, Fire, Water, and Earth, and linking this to the Myers Briggs, I realized that the two psychological systems had much in common when looking at the human instrument. To me, life seemed to depend on how we all tried to meet our needs and desires as individuals. Dorothy was looking for her own mind (the water-social-physical function of subjectivity and reaction), and Dorothy was looking for her own home (All on the same path, but for different reasons, to satisfy their inner desires. What Our Clients' Limited Beliefs Can Do we are all seekers and we all live our lives but in our own way to meet our needs. On this journey, we face disappointments, bad weather, good weather, ups and downs, joys, and sorrows. When something happens in our life that makes us tense inside, it may be because we have a problem that we don't want to face or deal with.
